Solar in a Box... and then on your rooftop!
When it comes to residential solar panel systems, cost and installation are two of the biggest worries. Enter Ready Solar!
Ready Solar sells pre-assembled “solar in a box” solar electric systems that you can buy at your local hardware store. Cheap, convenient and easy…. three of my favorite words when it comes to home improvement projects.
Did you know that Americans bought over 17 million flat screen TVs in 2006, yet only 45,000 solar panel kits? With solar in a box, the price and ease of installation is nearly comparable, however.
What is holding you back in 2010? Since 2006, the prices of solar panels have dropped more than 50% and the government now offers generous tax incentives and rebates.
Ready Solar’s PV panel product, “Solar in a Box,” makes going solar one of the simplest projects you’ll undertake this year. CEO Robert Giles observes:
“The pre-mounted, pre-wired, grounded solar modules do away with the complexity of installing traditional solar electric systems and cost about the same as the piece parts. It’s like making a cake. You can buy the eggs, flour … all separately. [But] most people would just choose to buy the cake.”
Solar in a box includes PV panels from Canadian Solar and Suntech, which can be installed in a single day. The kits are pre-assembled through contract manufacturers at International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-approved facilities. For those that want to get into the solar installation business, Ready Solar also has web-based training.
You can find the Solar in a Box products throughout much of the U.S. at Sam’s Club (a division of Wal-Mart). Eventually, the company intends to take its solar electric systems global.
Today, you can find the Ready Solar products in 20 states. More than 1,000 individuals and businesses have already installed the solar modules, with many more on the horizon in 2010. Offering a lower-cost and easy installation over most solar panel systems is a big advantage.
What is stopping you from going solar this year?

May 6, 2011, Friday. I was just quoted $44,000 for a 5kw Ready Solar installation. Not what I expected after getting quotes on websites for $25,000. Yes, I know there’s a lot to be desired in what these websites take into account when quoting and Ready Solar has a really unique product. I was blown away with the simplicity of it. But, right now even with the 30% government rebate of the net system cost, I just do not want to plunk down the $10,000 down payment and finance the rest. It’s long term and my wife says we might move and there is no money in improvements when selling. It’s a toss up. You never know if you’re going to move or not. I like things long term so it’s a waiting game to try to get the wife to agree to this I guess. In the meantime we’re losing on a sure fire, long term investment. Maybe later.

Hi Paul – that sounds frustrating, for sure. There are a lot of studies/articles that say homes with solar power sell faster and for more money. One U.S. Govt. figure (I think from HUD) says for every dollar you save in electricity bills, the value of your home increases by $20. If you save $500 a year, that’s worth $10,000 right there.
Good luck – Stephanie
