Solar is great but in California, we're taught as Electricians that if your home is leaking or drafty then you're wasting your time with Solar. Call PG&E and ask for a Evaluation which in many cases will be free, they will show you how to be much more efficient and why solar works... The pay off over 15- 20 year plan is always the best we're told

Solar panels are a great way to reduce your homes carbon footprint. Using free solar electricity during daylight hours can save you thousands of pounds over the life time of the system.

I live in Florida where hurricanes are pretty prevalent and power outages abound. I really want a solar system but am pretty sure I cant afford the cost of the product. Would love it if someone could tell me how to do it for free. I work but my husband hasnt worked in over 12 yrs, disabled without benefit of the income that comes with it. Red tape. He finally started getting social security but its so little its almost like not having any at all. I am paying for my mgt and all my bills and at present my sons so that he can attend college and have better then I did. Dont get me wrong, I have a great job that pays well but with the economy the way it is at present, we are barely able to make ends meet and theres no funds left for things we dont ABSOLUTELY have to have. If something breaks it has to stay that way till we finally get the money scraped together.

Hello, I have a Idea that works well in the Solar I Phone case but I need to learn more about Smaller Solar pices. I have one that works. but it only puts about 2 hours more power a day. it's a case you would put the I phone in. if you could help with my I idea it would be nice.

Blessings to everyone reading this! We all know that the "times" we are living in are difficult, at best....especially if one is married with children (I am 50, divorced and no children...only my best friend, Bud, a "whachamacallit" small breed that has been my best friend for the past 10 years...during the time I was able to work and now during the time I am DISabled due to multiple Ortho/Spinal injuries and quite a bit of Neuro problems mainly from having smacked my head almost thru the windshield and THEN having part of the steering wheel in the left temple area of my head)! Needless to say, I am in chronic pain all the time, and do wish so much I could return to my love of electronics/electrical engineering and spreading the word of our Maker. I have a Doctoral degree with alot of other education in electronics and electronic communication, mainly from Ham Radio and USAF/MARS.

Anyway, with the short bio out of the way, I would VERY VERY VERY much like to contact/communicate with regarding solar electrical systems, both commercial and those who have GOOD plans (who don't want a small fortune for the dope on homemade PV power systems). Having to live on my sole income from Soc Sec Disability (FOR EVERYTHING....FROM FOOD TO PHARMACEUTUCALS and everything in between), I would very mucy like to connect with folks, who like myself, want to get "off the grid" as much as I can for my electrical needs and as much else as I am able, physicially, to do. I am not paralyzed, but anyone who lives with intense chronic pain knows how this halts one from doing most things in life one would like to do, in the physical realm, at least....any other avenues as well.

In addition to power, food of course is a biggie. There are many companies out there selling "survival food", with long shelf lives. Not being able to try most of them, I don't know which are good and which are recycled table scraps!

On the above two issues, and any more in the area of trying to get off the grid as much as possible,re: food, shelter, power and everyday stuff of just living, I would like to contact others, esp. in the NW Kanas and SW NE areas (say from Hays, KS to Hill City, KS to the Colorado Border, down to Gove, KS and back up around the Quinter, KS area for mutual edification and exchange of information in this area.

MY contact info is:

Rev. David Carter, DD david@davidcarter.us

I will soon be up on Skype,, and, if you so desire, I will be happy to phone you if you leave me your phone number with the rest of your contact information. One request....please!!! Don't put me on any bulk mailing lists, spam lists or any other lists without my permission.....I get enough as it is!

Thank You...The very best of blessings to you, and hope I hear from soon! Rev. Dr. David Carter, W5JN

Awsome post! It's fascinating what you can do with smartphones, I just got one and your site is one of the first I happened to view, just googled some stuff and clicked your link. Anyways, like I said, excellent read.

After reading your post I thought you might also be interested in something I'm just discovering. With technology advances in phones I have also become passionate about a few other things, one of them being Solar Panels, particularly DIY Solar Panels.

Anyways, don't want to make a huge deal about DIY Solar Panels here for it's becoming my passion and may not be yours. If interested I recommend this site for more info on DIY Solar Panels

The possibilities are enormous for domestic solar power. With the increasing price of energy solar energy will only become more interesting down the road.Solar power is vital to the advancement of the society. It is important for countries, such as the U . S ., to move away from the addiction to foreign oil and to use energy resources which are readily available. No person can deny the sun isn't a stable resource.

I to think that making your own solar panels with solar panels kits is lot cheaper then buying a final product and I still think that the prices of ready solar products is very high for main stream usage

Great topic here.
Work of many people on this issue of plastic, there are several plastic materials recycling organic-based view. In February, for example, Imperial College London and bioceramic drug polymer biodegradable plastic from sugar derived from the decay of lignocellulosic biomass.
