A new solar farm planned for Italy will bring utility scale solar power to the Umbria region, in the town of Narni. Canadian Solar announced that it has completed the 1 megawatt (MW) SOLARTA installation. The solar farm includes over 4,000 solar panels (230 Watt modules).
Canadian Solar is using its CS6P solar modules at the 2 hectare project (20,000 square meters). Not only will the solar farm result in annual savings of 16,000 tons of CO2 emissions, but the overall development has been sensitively designed to blend into the landscape in an aesthetically pleasing manner. This is very important to the picturesque region:

Canadian Solar’s SOLARTA project is already hooked up to the electric grid. According to the press release:
“This solar plant demonstrates how photovoltaic energy systems can be installed with full respects to the environment, but also as highly profitable investment in energy production. The photovoltaic panels from the Canadian company occupy 50% of the area and are arranged geometrically in multiple rows. In order to get the most out of the irradiation, the solutions adopted by SOLARTA are tilted at 28 degrees in order to guarantee greater exposure to direct rays of the sun.”
Italy is a fast-growing solar market to which solar developers are attracted world-wide. Canadian Solar is one of several firms that have successfully integrated into the Italian solar market, with plans for additional development in the country. Working with GE Progetti and 3i, the company is already heralding the SOLARTA PV farm in Umbria a great success.
