Solar panels on your carport or garage can charge your 100% electric Nissan LEAF
Perhaps its just the type of “green” owners that are buying (or considering) the new 2011 Nissan LEAF, but an informal poll at a forum at MyNissanLeaf indicates that Nissan LEAF electric car owners want solar power charging for their vehicles.
The poll includes four choices: solar, green utility-based power, “regular” utility-based power and “other.” The poll is still in its infancy, but of the 112 respondents (so far), 50% indicated that they would like to charge the battery-powered Nissan LEAF with solar energy.
Fortunately, there are several options to tap into solar power for the Nissan LEAF and other electric vehicles. Homeowners can install solar panels on their home or even go with a solar carport (pictured above). In some areas in California, you can find solar-powered parking lots that include outlets for plugging in EVs for recharging. There are even solar park and ride facilities.
With the price of oil already climbing in early 2011, experts are predicting $5/gallon gas by this autumn. Perhaps its time to think about an alternative fuel vehicle like the Nissan Leaf? With solar power charging, you can reduce carbon emissions of your commute practically to zero.
