Voltaic Backpack

Solar backpacks for back to school

Its time to start planning for the new school year!  At the top of my list are solar backpacks for back to school.  Why?  You might ask?  Well, let’s just say that I’m sick and tired of having my cell phone, MP3 player and/or computer conk out on me.  Instead of scrambling for an outlet or worrying about how much battery life is remaining, my kids and I can use a solar backpack from Voltaic to energize our devices with pure and simple sunlight.

Voltaic solar backpacks come with adapters for a range of common gadgets from Blackberries to cameras, computers to iPods.  The powerful, lightweight solar panels on the Voltaic backpack drink in energy from the sun, and can store the clean solar power in a battery inside the bag, saving it for when you need it.

As we noted in a related blog post:

“As if all of this usefulness was not enough, Voltaic Bags are truly Green. They are made from recycled PET (soda bottles) that looks just as good (if not better) than nylon. The bags are lightweight, durable and waterproof.”

Here’s a quick primer on the Voltaic backpack:

Its a perfect back to school purchase!  In a mere 1-3 hours, your phone and computer can be recharged.  Walking across campus?  Biking to school?  Just plug in your devices and wear a solar backpack.  By the time you get to class, you could be powered for the afternoon.

I know – you’re probably wondering about cost for a solar powered bag.  Prices range from $199-$599.  Many active, outdoor people believe there is really no other way to enjoy the outdoors and still be able to stay in touch.  If you want to be extra “green,” why not look for a used version on eBay or Craigslist?

What do you think about the solar backpacks?  Would you get one for your family this year?
