Obama Shines with the Light of Solar Energy

Today, the 44th President of the United States takes office.  At 12:00 noon Eastern Standard Time, Barack Hussein Obama will officially become the new President, regardless of whether the Inauguration ceremony is complete at that moment in time.  What do you think will happen in the first 100 days in office?  Seriously – I want to know!  Please add your comments below.

As a solar power proponent, I have been eagerly looking forward to new leadership in Washington and the hope that we can, one day soon, become energy independent as a nation.  Just last week, Obama addressed the nation with comments about renewable energy.  This inspiring ad also has been running for a few months:

I have seen the following video a number of times, but am still so excited about it.  Last May 2008, Obama visited my hometown in Oregon that hadn’t seen a presidential candidate in decades.  Even Hillary Clinton did not come here…. she sent Bill instead.

Obama came and was quickly heralded as both a hero and visionary.  He spent some time at PV Powered, a local photovoltaic panel producer.  After Obama toured the facility, he addressed the nation with this video:

A New Day - Barack Obama

Our new 44th President

Much has been said about Obama’s promises to create 5 million new green jobs.  The jury is out on whether or not he’ll accomplish this lofty goal (especially with the tanking economy requiring much attention at first).  Still, even naysayers can agree that Obama has been very consistent in his message about the urgency to break our dependence on foreign oil.  Encouraging continued investment in solar power is one way to get there.

Personally, I believe that the sun is rising on a new promise – a bright new future for Americans and the world.

Congratulations President Obama!  We cannot wait to see what’s in store for us.
