Hello... Can I take your order?

When I think of the massive hamburger chain, McDonald’s, the last color that comes to mind is “green.” After all, if you are familiar at all with the practices of raising beef for slaughter and consumption, you may know that raising livestock is almost equivalent to operating vast numbers of cars when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions.

So, can McDonald’s go solar? What would it take for the golden arches to turn green?

Well, hold the mustard. It seems that Micky-D’s is taking baby steps towards going green. A few months ago, the corporation proudly announced that one of its restaurants (that’s right – just one) was installing solar powered air conditioning. Kudos to Solar Green Solutions for helping with the GreenCore Solar Air Conditioner.

Beyond that press release, I have not seen anything else. But I did find this McDonald’s commercial online that is airing in Japan. Who knew that a burger could be so sexy?

Yeah, so what were we talking about? Oh yes, solar power.

Well, the announcement about the solar powered air conditioner in California is the only information I have found. The question remains, “Can McDonald’s Go Solar?” And I mean with respect to numerous franchisees all over the world, not just a single restaurant in the U.S. Will the corporation mandate the installation of solar panels on rooftops to power the golden arches and deep fat fryers? Can it take the edge off the global warming that is probably resulting from the chain’s behemoth operations?

Hey, I just found a pickle in my kid’s Happy Meal. That’s green….
